Rafa Benitez comments on January transfer plans

Rafa Benitez has hinted that Everton could struggle to sign players in the January transfer window.

In an interview with Leon Osman on Everton’s official YouTube channel, Benitez has admitted that it will be tough to do business in January.

At the same time, he has suggested that in the future the Toffees will have more chances to improve the squad.

The Spanish boss has suggested that January is a “difficult” market, and that not too many good players are available in the market.

However, he will still try to change things a little bit if it is possible.

“It’s not easy and especially for example, January is a difficult market because there are not too many good players available and then there are too many teams that need players,” said Benitez.

“But we will try to change things a little bit if it is possible and I’m sure that in future we will have more chances to do it.”

Need to buy

Everton spent only £1.8 million during the summer transfer window.

The squad needs reinforcement in several areas, and Benitez will need funds to bring the right players.

Signing a right-back is necessary, while adding a striker and an attacking midfielder should be on top of his priority list as well.

It is not easy to sign players in January, but Everton need more bodies in these areas.

The club have struggled badly in the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and one or two injuries to key players will further weaken the squad.

Having said that, Everton should first focus on winning games at the moment. We are without a win in our last five games, and we need to turn the situation around quickly.

The Toffees face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are demanding at least £30m for one of their star players.
