Mark Lawrenson predicts the result of Manchester City v Everton

Everton will travel to Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in the Premier League clash on Sunday.

Ahead of the match, popular BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted the outcome of the game.

He is “worried” about Everton’s recent slump in form, and has predicted a 3-0 defeat for the Toffees.

Everton

Lawrenson has suggested that Everton lack a threat in the absence of injured striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, it is their vulnerability at the back that has been a concern.

“Everton lack a threat without injured striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin but it is at the back that I am more worried about them at Etihad Stadium. I don’t see the Toffees scoring, or keeping City quiet either,” wrote Lawrenson for BBC Sport.

Worry

Without DCL, it is indeed a big worry, as he is a natural finisher, and we don’t have a solid back-up option.

Salomon Rondon has been a disappointment, while Cenk Tosun doesn’t seem to have a future at Goodison Park.

Everton

After the October international break, we seemed to have lost our way. We haven’t won a single game since and lost three games in a row.

The 5-2 defeat against Watford was simply unacceptable.

It is really hard to see us getting a win at the Etihad, but we can get a draw and frustrate Pep Guardiola’s men if we stay resolute at the back and get a goal somehow.

City have lost against Crystal Palace and dropped points against Southampton at home, and we should look to adopt similar tactics.

Benitez usually gets his tactics spot on against big teams. Having said that, we’ve to play our best football to keep City quiet.
