Rafa Benitez praises Everton midfielder Fabian Delph

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has showered heaps of praise on midfielder Fabian Delph.

The Spaniard has revealed today that the Toffees wanted to sell Delph in the summer transfer window.

However, he showed great commitment and intensity in training. Benitez suggests that he trained really well, and has had to stop him at times.

“He has the right mentality, the right attitude. I have to stop him in the training sessions because he’s pushing very hard,” said Benitez, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“What I saw from him at the beginning, I think he knows we were thinking about replacing him.

“But he’s trained really well, we’ve had to wait for ten weeks for him to be available. He’s showed commitment, intensity and he’s quite vocal. He has the experience of winning something and the mentality to help the young players.”

Impressive

Everton wanted to sell Delph in the summer transfer window, but the former Manchester City midfielder was keen to stay on.

He has a contract at the club till the end of the season, and chances are unlikely that the Toffees will hand him a new deal.

Delph has struggled with injuries during his time at Everton, and it has been really frustrating for the player and the club.

The 31-year-old has now returned to full fitness and has played three matches in the Premier League.

He started against Tottenham Hotspur in the previous game and made quite an impact.

In the absence of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Delph is expected to feature in midfield against Manchester City this weekend.

Everton have struggled in recent games, having failed to win in their past five games.

It will be a daunting task to get a positive result against Pep Guardiola’s side away from home, and we’ll have to be at our best.
