Kevin Campbell reacts as Danny Donachie shown Everton exit door

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Danny Donachie leaving Everton is just a consequence of Rafael Benitez arriving.

The Toffees decided to relieve Donachie of his duties after Benitez conducted a review into the injury problems within his squad [The Athletic].

The end result was that Donachie was moved on, although this decision had nothing to do with his work.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell revealed his thoughts on the matter: “I know Dan Donachie very well.

“Dan Donachie is a very, very good physio. But maybe Rafa has his own people he wants to bring in.

“Sometimes, that is always the case.”

A sad situation but perhaps a necessary one.

It is always horrible to see people with long affiliations with clubs leave, and Donachie served the Toffees well.

However, it is clear that the injury situation within the squad couldn’t go on, and it probably isn’t really a surprise to see Benitez make that decision.

The Toffees have been hit so hard with injuries this season to key players at key times, and though it doesn’t seem as if it was Donachie’s fault, perhaps a change in methods or a new face could stop these problems.

When Benitez has a full squad to pick from, the Toffees look like a great team, but they struggle without key players, like any side.

So, it will be intriguing to see what happens next at Finch Farm as Benitez looks to improve the club’s horrendous injury record.

Overall, though, we agree with Campbell because this does seem to be a situation that could happen at any club.
