Everton favourites to sign Dundee United defender Kerr Smith

Everton are favourites to sign Dundee United defender Kerr Smith and have opened talks over a January move, according to TEAMtalk.

The Toffees have scouted the 16-year-old and have now jumped ahead of Liverpool in the queue to sign him.

They have even held positive talks and are looking to complete his signing.

Should a deal be agreed, he is expected to stay at Tannadice on an extended loan spell.

Top talent

Smith may not be a household name among fans of the Premier League, but the fact that Liverpool, Manchester City and United are keen, suggests that he’s a top talent.

Everton have scouted him extensively and have appeared to have gone ahead of all the aforementioned clubs in the race to sign him.

At 16, it’s best that his development is aided at his boyhood club, but he can at least be signed by Everton so they will not be at risk of him being poached by the bigger clubs.

Despite the growing interest in the young defender’s services, Dundee United boss Thomas Courts believes that he is in no hurry to leave.

“Kerr has had to deal with it for the best part of a year now so it’s nothing new for him,” Courts told The Courier.

“He has been down training with English Premier League clubs in the past so we know they are aware of him.”

Hopefully, Marcel Brands gets this done as soon as possible as Smith appears to be a bright prospect for the future.
