Gary Neville stunned by ‘really strange’ Anthony Gordon incident during Everton clash v Manchester City
Gary Neville was left baffled by Anthony Gordon after the Everton winger’s first-half challenge on Manchester City star Phil Foden.
Gordon, 20, was named in the starting XI for Sunday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium, but an early incident with England international Foden left Neville confused in the Sky Sports commentary box.
“Gordon and Foden have clashed,” he remarked.

“Ooh what’s he doing, Gordon, it’s a strange challenge, a really strange challenge from Gordon. He almost jumps over the ball and there’s not really a challenge there to make.
“It’s a weird one.”

Feisty
Gordon certainly wasn’t shy of putting himself about against the reigning Premier League champions.
Named in Rafa Benitez’s starting XI for the second successive game, Gordon immediately went about trying to prove the Spaniard right.
It wasn’t easy for the England Under-21 international, though, as Everton were dominated by Pep Guardiola’s side.
City had the majority of possession spent the first half camped in the away side’s half, and the Blues were unable to create many attacks of their own.
But they defended resolutely and restricted City to minimal shots on target until Raheem Sterling’s opener on the stroke of half-time, though VAR did also have to intervene to chalk off a penalty that was awarded against Michael Keane.
Gordon played his part in keeping the score at 0-0 until late on as he worked tirelessly to track Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden on Everton’s right-hand side.
He will certainly be hoping to show his attacking talents in the second half, and Everton will have to show greater intent to claim a point.
In other Everton news, Rafa Benitez has ruled this Blues star out until mid-December through injury.
