Jamie Carragher delivers verdict on penalty decision in Everton v Man City
Jamie Carragher has suggested on Twitter that the Manchester City penalty decision overturned by VAR in the first half against Everton was the right one.
Gary Neville has suggested on Sky Sports that it was a penalty, but Carragher has made it clear on Twitter that that’s not how he sees it.
He wrote: “Never a pen”.
This was followed by another tweet where he explained: “VAR makes sure it’s the right decision, no system is perfect but I do think VAR has been a positive for our game this season.”
Spot on
In the 33rd minute of the game, Raheem Sterling was awarded a penalty after being brought down by Michael Keane inside the box.
There was minimal contact and Sterling made the most out of it by going down easily. Stuart Atwell took his time to make the decision, and in the end, delivered the verdict in Everton’s favour.

Sterling simply dived here or he may have lost his balance.
Rob Green on BBC Sport suggested that to the naked eye, it looked like there was contact, but VAR found the evidence not conclusive enough.
It was the right decision in the end. The referee got a chance to review his original decision and make it correct.
Carragher is absolutely spot on here. No system is perfect, and VAR definitely is far from being perfect.
However, this season, they have got most of the decisions correct, and it has had a positive effect on the game.
