Chris Foy: Ref made right call during Everton v Man City

Chris Foy has claimed that the referee made the right decision to award Raheem Sterling a penalty against Everton on Sunday.

The Citizens ran out comfortable 3-0 winners on the day, but there was some contention over the affording of the penalty.

However, Foy, who was a Premier League referee for a number of years, credits Stuart Attwell for getting it spot on.

He said on Premier League’s Weekend Round-up Show, “It was an excellent VAR overturn. When you see it again Sterling was actually avoiding contact so it was a penalty.”

Dubious

Michael Keane should not have gone in the way he did, but Sterling was clearly playing for it.

VAR depends on the angles you’re looking at the incident from and the one they saw possibly suggested that there was enough contact for a penalty.

However, Sterling is known to be notorious for fabricating contact and we believe he’s successfully deceived the referees reviewing the controversial incident.

They’re experts and should not be tricked into these kinds of decisions, but unfortunately, that’s what happened and it’s a tough one to take.

Apart from that incident, the entire game was played on City’s terms and Rafa Benitez needs to work out a plan against these big sides.

Everton must finish in the top half at the very least and currently, they look a million miles off it.
