Rafael Benitez provides injury update on Demarai Gray

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that he is waiting to see how Demarai Gray is after he was brought off against Manchester City.

The 25-year-old started quite brightly against Pep Guardiola’s side, but he lasted less than 20 minutes before he was taken off with what looked like a groin injury.

The Toffees already have a lot of injury problems, and the last thing that Benitez needed was for another one of his star players to go off.

Now he faces a nervous wait to see how bad the injury is.

Speaking in his post-match press conference [Everton’s official Twitter page], he said: “We will see how Demarai is. Injuries are a problem for us, but we have to deal with that.”

Another injury problem.

The most concerning thing about Gray’s injury was that it happened with no one anywhere near him, so it is clear that it was a muscle problem.

The Toffees already have a few key players missing in Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, so they really don’t need Gray to be out for a long time.

As soon as he went off the pitch, the Toffees went flat and offered nothing until Salomon Rondon came on the field.

This was another poor display from the Toffees, and they will just have to hope that Gray’s injury isn’t too bad and he is back for the Brentford match.

If he isn’t, then Everton are missing a huge creative outlet who has had a fine start to the season.

So, we will just have to see what happens now, but the last thing Everton need is another bad injury.
