Sky Sports pundit admits Everton Lucas Digne has ‘staggered’ him after statistic in Brentford defeat

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has been left “staggered” by the inability of Lucas Digne to notch an Everton assist this season.

Digne, 28, has played all but one of Everton’s 13 Premier League games this term, including Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Brentford.

However, he is yet to directly contribute to a league goal this season, despite returns of eight (four goals, four assists), seven (all assists) and seven (all assists) in his first three campaigns with the Blues.

Speaking on live commentary for Sky Sports [28/11/21] during Everton’s defeat at the Brentford Community Stadium on Sunday, Goodman admits Digne’s lack of goal threat this season has surprised him..

“I was reading the stats about Lucas Digne and I was staggered to see that he hasn’t had an assist this season so far,” he said.

“[He’s got] such a wand of a left foot and brilliant deliveries into the penalty area.”

Disappointing Digne

The French full-back has certainly suffered this season as Everton struggled under Rafa Benitez.

The season started so brightly for the Spaniard but his first loss as Blues manager, a 3-0 defeat at Aston Villa [September 18], signalled the start of a very worrying trend.

Injuries have played their part, no doubt, but just one win – over struggling Norwich City – in their last 10 games is a horrifying statistic.

Digne was poor in that hammering at Villa Park and has failed to kick back into gear.

He is suffering without the powerful presence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at centre-forward, but a player of Digne’s talents should not be held back by one man.

Even his free-kicks, like at Brentford today, have been awful.

He’ll have to step his game up if he wished to claim his first assist any time soon.
