Sky Sports pundit raves about Demarai Gray in Everton clash v Brentford

Don Goodman was impressed with Demarai Gray after the Everton winger came off the bench in the 1-0 defeat at Brentford on Sunday.

Gray, 25, was named on the bench at the start of the game but it was clear that the ex-Leicester winger should have been in the side from the off with the way he played.

On a couple of occasions, he crossed the ball into the Brentford box and none of his attacking teammates were able to make the most of it.

Goodman spotted Gray’s frustrations as he raved about the attacker’s crossing.

“He can’t do any more than that – it’s a brilliant delivery,” said Goodman on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday after Gray’s cross wasn’t met by anyone.

“Look at his arms in the background stretched out wide, ‘why is nobody on the end of that?’.”

Impact

Gray did everything he could to try and get Everton back into the game against Brentford but the quality inside the box was lacking massively.

As soon as Dominic Calvert-Lewin first picked up his injured, we knew we had issues on the horizon.

Richarlison’s injury has doubled those issues and Salomon Rondon’s pathetic performances in front of goal have tripled them.

You have to think that if we had DCL available at Brentford, we would not have had any issues with grabbing all three points – let alone a draw.

Gray has done well this season.

Of course, he has gone off the boil in recent weeks but he showed when he came off the bench that he still has a lot to offer for Rafa Benitez, who’s finding himself under more and more pressure as the Blues’ winless run extended to seven Premier League matches at Brentford.

We’re losing and dropping points in matches we should be winning and nothing about this suggests there’s an improvement upon what Carlo Ancelotti achieved at Goodison.
