Yannick Bolasie baffled by Rafa Benitez decision in Everton loss v Brentford

Yannick Bolasie has blasted Rafa Benitez after he failed to play Everton youngster Lewis Dobbin in the 1-0 defeat at Brentford on Sunday.

Dobbin, 18, was on the bench at the Brentford Community Stadium but wasn’t used by the Blues boss as his side went seven Premier League matches without a win.

Ex-Toffees winger Bolasie was furious with the fact that Dobbin didn’t play as he took to Twitter after the match to take issue with Benitez’s team selection and in-game management.

“I’m baffled. Surely Dobbin gets a chance off the bench. If not, [it’s] pointless [him] being on there. Just my opinion,” said Bolasie via his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

Awful decisions

Benitez has had to do a lot to prove to Evertonians that he can be a success at Goodison Park.

From the very moment he was linked with the job at Goodison, there were fans out there who refused to back the Spaniard if he took charge.

Of course, that is what happened so one of Benitez’s first jobs turned out to be winning over the backing of the fans.

He hasn’t done that – plain and simple.

Constantly playing Salomon Rondon up front when he has other options up front is ridiculous.

Injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have been very unfortunate and we can’t blame the boss too much for that.

However, persisting with a player who’s struggled for goals at three Premier League clubs now is the definition of insanity.

Cenk Tosun and Ellis Simms are also available and Dobbin can also play up front so why not throw him on too?

Benitez has a lot to answer for after a really woeful attacking display at Brentford.
