BBC presenter blasts Rafa Benitez over Everton decision
BBC and Premier League presenter Will Perry has taken aim at Rafa Benitez for taking the Everton manager’s job during the summer.
Speaking in a video posted on FootyAccums’ Twitter account (30 November), the Match of the Day reporter was in no mood to feel sorry for the Spaniard ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
“Everyone saying ‘oh I can see why Rafa took the job, he lives nearby’, what a pathetic reason to take it,” he said.

“He didn’t need to take it because he lives down the road. No matter what Liverpool fans and Everton fans say, he has tainted his legacy.
“He could’ve taken the Newcastle job, he’s done it and now he’s in trouble.”
Predictable?
The fact that Benitez lives on the Wirral has been levelled against him as a big reason for taking the Everton job.
That does much to dismiss the stature of Everton and the ambitions of Benitez.
But, how did the Spaniard really see this going? He was only able to spend £1.7million during the summer transfer window – on Demarai Gray – and injuries and suspensions have since shown the poor state of the Blues squad.
He surely knew the pressure would be piled on him as soon as he endured a sticky patch, and this is now developing more than that – the Toffees are winless in seven games, with a tough run of fixtures on the horizon.
The rumours have already started about who his potential successor will be, and the board may be forced to pull the trigger if current results continue.
The blame lies mainly at the board’s feet, but Benitez must have expected this.
In other Everton news, Blues scouts were in Belgium on Saturday as this Spanish sensation stole the show.
