Leon Osman: I nearly walked out after Everton performance v Liverpool

Leon Osman admitted he nearly walked out of Goodison Park after Everton’s poor start to the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool were 2-0 up inside 19 minutes on Wednesday night – Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah getting on the scoresheet – and eventually went on to win 4-1.

In the Amazon Prime Video studio at halftime, host Gabby Logan mentioned how some Toffees fans left the ground early after going two goals behind.

“I thought about it myself,” Osman nervously laughed.

“I had to drag him back on a couple of occasions,” fellow pundit Steve McManaman chipped in.

Osman continued: “It was such a dominant first 20 minutes from Liverpool, it really was. They showed what a top class team they are. It was worrying.”

Shocking

To be honest, you would not have blamed Osman, or any supporters, for walking out after Everton’s terrible start to the match.

There were certainly not many left in the ground when the Toffees’ convincing defeat was confirmed at fulltime.

There were fears that Everton could be embarrassed by their local rivals and Liverpool dominated right from the first whistle, with Joel Matip and Salah spurning big chances in the opening five minutes.

Henderson deservedly opened the scoring with a superb finish before Salah doubled the lead soon after.

While Demarai Gray did manage to half the deficit, it was only a short reprieve as the Reds reasserted their control on the match in the second half as Salah scored again and Diogo Jota also got in on the act.

Serious questions will now be asked of Rafa Benitez, as Everton have taken just two points from their last eight matches.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could look to sell one of their star players to raise transfer funds.
