Everton urged to sign Aleksandr Golovin by Tim Cahill
Former Everton star Tim Cahill has urged the club to sign Monaco midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.
According to Championat, the Toffees have shown “serious interest” in the Russian international, who has a contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2024.
Everton’s loss to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday (1 December) has led to increased talk of how the squad needs a significant shake up.

Speaking to Soccer.ru, Cahill suggested that Golovin would be a good addition if the Toffees did decide to make a move for the 25-year-old.
“He [Golovin] is a great footballer,” he said. “After yesterday’s 4-1 defeat against Liverpool, it is clear that Everton needs good players. He could strengthen the team.”
Deal unlikely
Golovin netted five goals and registered nine assists as Monaco made a surprise challenge for the French title last season, leading the Ligue 1 website to hail him as “sensational” .
However, he has not quite replicated his form in the current campaign, scoring just twice in 11 league appearances so far.

Golovin has most often been used as a winger by Monaco and Everton are well-stocked in that area. Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have been two of their best performers this season, while Richarlison prefers to attack from out wide.
The Toffees do however need to add creativity in the middle of the park, so could sign him as a number 10, the position he is usually deployed in with the Russian national team.
However, the transfer fee could be a problem as they are acting cautiously in the market due to financial fair play regulations.
The 25-year-old is a player approaching his peak, has three and a half years left on his contract and is valued at £25.2million by Transfermarkt, so a deal seems unlikely.
