Elton Welsby slams Farhad Moshiri for one Everton decision
Former TV personality and lifelong Everton fan Elton Welsby thinks Farhad Moshiri could have been “stupid” to appoint Rafael Benitez.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo about the Toffees’ situation, Welsby discussed the Spaniard’s appointment and if he was the right man to turn things around.
He thinks that Moshiri potentially made a mistake by hiring Benitez but also feels as if it was a “brave” choice to go for him.

He said: “I thought Rafa Benitez would make a difference. I can’t say that any longer.
“It was either very stupid or very brave for Farhad Moshiri and the board to appoint him, and now I don’t know which it is.
“I like to think I’m balanced, but I don’t think any Evertonian would be absolutely grief-stricken if the club were to relieve Rafa of his duties.”
Benitez not the right man?
The Toffees are going through a very tough patch, and if they keep losing, they could be dragged into a relegation zone.
Now, that hasn’t happened yet, and they still have a gap to the bottom three, but even that thought shouldn’t be possible given the money the club has spent on players.
However, after years and years of poor recruitment, they have been left with this current side who are really struggling for confidence and seem to lack ability.

Inevitably in these situations, it is the manager who loses his job, and you do worry for Benitez.
They simply have to win against Arsenal or Crystal Palace.
If they don’t, then there would be serious questions over Benitez’s future as football is a results game, and he isn’t getting anything at the moment.
If he can turn it around, he could build something special, but will he be allowed to do that?
