Goodison Tactics: How can Everton hurt Arsenal?

Everton have failed to win their last eight games and host Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night.

It is pretty simple; they need a win. Rafael Benitez’s side can’t go much longer without a win, or those European dreams will be fading fast.

Instead, they could face the real prospect of a relegation battle, which could be a total disaster.

The Gunners have had a strong start to the season, but WhoScored claim that they are poor at dealing with attacks down the wings.

Now, that was definitely true against Manchester United as they conceded two goals from the wings that we will look at now.

Jadon Sancho picks up the ball on the right. Fred makes a late run into the box.
Sancho slides the ball into Fred. Bruno Fernandes peels off into space. The ball slides between two Arsenal players.
Bruno is unmarked and slides the ball into the net.

Now, this was a great goal from the Red Devils but from Arsenal’s point of view.

The defending on the right was poor, and the ball to Fred should never have reached the Brazilian.

This was an incisive move, but the Toffees could replicate it with the likes of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend on the wings, causing problems.

The goal came from a late run by Fred, which could most certainly be replicated by Abdoulaye Doucoure.

He has been fantastic at breaking forward this season, and if he can do the same, he should be able to cause Arsenal plenty of problems.

The ball is played into Marcus Rashford who is away. Nuno Tavares is so far out of position that he has no chance of catching Rashford.
Rashford has all the time in the world to find his pass. Cristiano Ronaldo is waiting in the box.
The ball comes into Ronaldo who slams it home.

This was another great goal, but it is clear that Tavares could be the one the Toffees could target.

If they can create an overload on the right, they should be able to cause plenty of problems.

However, this will be a tough game, there is no doubt about that, and the Toffees will have to be at their best to have a chance of getting anything.

In other Everton news, the Toffees lead the chase for one Real Madrid man.
