The Athletic share why Marcel Brands might have left Everton
Marcel Brands is set to leave Everton and The Athletic reports that Rafael Benitez’s insistence upon having a major role in transfers may have played a role.
On Sunday, it was revealed that the Dutchman was set to leave his role as the technical director of the Toffees.
Brands’ time hasn’t been great, and he had overseen so many poor signings, and the club have spent a lot of money as well, but they have very little to show for it.

Now, it seems as if Benitez has won the power battle, and that could explain why Brands is going.
Benitez wins the power battle.
This has come out of nowhere, but Brands is on the way out.
Things turned nasty for the Dutchman after the Merseyside derby when he was confronted by a few angry fans after their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.
So, Brands’ time is up, and he doesn’t have much to show for it, which is a shame.
He arrived with a huge reputation, and the move just hasn’t worked at all.
Hopefully, now that he has gone, the Toffees can come up with an effective and efficient transfer system that works and allows them to sign players who Benitez actually wants.

You would have to say that the Spaniard has won the power battle here, and this could be a sign that the club are prepared to back Benitez through this tricky patch.
So, it will be intriguing to see what happens next, but one thing is clear, Brands has gone, and the Toffees have no one to hide behind anymore.
