Everton set to hold Cenk Tosun transfer talks this week after Besiktas bid

Besiktas and Everton are set to continue talks this week over the potential transfer of striker Cenk Tosun, according to Turkish news outlet Takvim.

The two clubs have already held a meeting over Tosun, 30, but there are disagreements over his price.

Everton are demanding around £1.7million while Besiktas have so far offered £1.1million.

The Super Lig giants are now aiming to complete the signing of the Turkey international for £1.3million and will offer him a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further year.

Tosun’s contract at Everton expires in June 2022.

Beginning of an exodus?

Marcel Brands left his post as Everton director of football on Sunday (5 December) and there could be big movements in the playing squad as well.

Tosun wasn’t signed during Brands’ tenure – he was brought in while Steve Walsh was at the club, with Sam Allardyce as manager – but he sums up Everton’s approach to the transfer market in recent years.

He cost the Blues £27million in January 2018 [BBC] after Besiktas won the battle of minds with the Premier League side pushing past the £25million they originally thought would be enough to seal the deal.

Now, he could be set to return to the Turkish giants for a fee less than a tenth of what he cost the Blues, after spending the second half of last season on loan there until he sustained a serious injury.

In nearly four years on Merseyside, Tosun has scored just 11 goals in 58 appearances.

He made his first outing of the 2021/22 campaign last week (1 December) as a late substitute in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.

In other Everton news, Leon Osman issued his instant verdict to Brands’ exit live on BBC Match of the Day 2.
