Darren Bent mounts defence of Everton manager Rafa Benitez
Given the circumstances, Darren Bent believes that Everton manager Rafael Benitez is doing the best he can.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning (7 December), the former striker turned pundit defended the Spaniard and picked out his transfer business for praise.
Bent believes that Benitez has been hampered by the board, and he has performed well at Goodison Park so far.
He said: “First and foremost, Rafa went there with one hand tied behind his back.
“He spent £1.7million, which looks like the bargain of the century.
“So what was he expected to do? He signed Rondon, which I understand because he knows him.
“Gets Andros on a free. Gets Demarai Gray for £1.7million; that’s a fantastic bit of management.”
Bent stands up for Rafa.
This is good to see, and given the circumstances, Benitez has managed to get the best out of most of his players.
Now, before the Arsenal match, they were on a bad run, and they needed that win last night; there is no question about that.
However, if you look at the money they spent in the summer, it really was minimal, and in Gray, the Toffees have found a gem who was just waiting to be discovered and nurtured.

Benitez has also got a tune out of Townsend and Abdoulaye Doucoure, so he deserves praise for that.
Hopefully, this win will bring some confidence back into the squad, and Benitez can push them back up the table.
The injuries seem to be easing now, and once Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns, we can see the Toffees picking up some real momentum and making a push up the league.
Hopefully, they can move on from this poor spell of form and start picking up results now.
