Everton prepare to make off-field change after Brands quits

Everton will appoint another director of football after Marcel Brands left his role at Goodison Park, according to a new report.

The Daily Mail report that the Toffees want to replace the Dutchman, but crucially, Rafael Benitez will be involved in appointing his replacement.

Brands didn’t recommend the Spaniard to Farhad Moshiri in the summer, and it seems as if they never quite saw eye to eye, but hopefully, there will be no problems with the next one.

The Toffees’ recruitment has been poor for a long time, so if they can finally get that right, perhaps things will start to improve.

Do they need a director of football?

Given the way the past two director of football appointments have worked out, you could argue that the Toffees don’t need one.

Perhaps they should put all of their faith in the manager and allow him to bring in the players he wants?

Well, they could do that, but very few top football clubs operate like that and most have some sort of director of football in place to buy the players.

Now, it is clear that the Toffees have just got it wrong with their last two appointments, and perhaps it will be a case of third time lucky.

You would have to say that with Benitez being involved in the search for a successor, that should work out, and we might finally see the Toffees make the right appointment.

This also indicates that the Spaniard’s future probably isn’t in danger if he is going to be involved in the search for a new director of football.
