Rafael Benitez reacts to Marcel Brands’ Everton exit
Rafael Benitez believes that Everton need to look to the future after it was confirmed that Marcel Brands had left.
The Dutchman was the Toffees’ technical director but left his position on Monday morning (6 December) before the Toffees beat Arsenal 2-1 at Goodison Park [Everton website].
After the match, the Spaniard was asked about Brands’ departure and what would happen next.

In quotes relayed by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “We have to start working right now to prepare for the future. The future is in January, and then we have to think long term.
“The fact that the club has changed managers in the past and now they want to do something long term with an idea, very clear what we want to achieve.
“I think we will try to do that.
“My experience with the people we have around at the club, I think that we can try things in that direction, and hopefully, it will be the right one.”
Benitez sounds positive.
Now, given that Benitez didn’t mention Brands once, one would think that he is very happy that the Dutchman has gone.
He also seems to indicate that he will have more control, which should please him and allow him to build the squad that he wants.
The Toffees have proved that they could turn in some fantastic displays with the current squad, and they deservedly beat the Gunners.

It is now about adding to that team, improving it, and moving the club further up the league and away from danger.
It is clear that Benitez believes he is the right man to do that, and now that he should have more control over transfers, one would think he could start building the side that he envisages.
Brands leaving might turn out to be a very good thing for the Spaniard and the control that he has over the club and transfers.
