Lucas Digne breaks silence amid reports he has fallen out with Benitez

Everton left-back Lucas Digne has taken to his personal Instagram account to react to reports he has fallen out with Rafa Benitez.

The France international, 28, was omitted from Monday’s (6 December) matchday squad against Arsenal, and The Athletic have since reported that he was dropped by the Toffees boss after an argument.

Digne is having none of it, though, and with the reports making the round all day on Wednesday (8 December), he took to social media to react.

The Everton ace said: “Don’t believe everything you read. Only one thing matters: The club.

“What a fight – what a win against Arsenal, guys!

“I was sad not to play. I was looking forward to be playing for Everton as always.

“The manager chose not to select me. That’s football.”

PR move?

Digne is not expected to admit that he fell out with Rafa, and the boss was not keen to shed light on the main reason why he dropped him.

The Athletic hardly put out information except it has been confirmed, but the Toffees full-back is keen to douse the tension, and that is a good move on his part.

It is believed the Everton ace would be open to a Goodison Park exit, but he is insisting nothing much happened behind the scenes.

The Blues have only Digne as their natural left-back, but Ben Godfrey can fill in in the position and was brilliant against the Gunners.

Everton

Everton finally ended their run of six losses and two draws before the 2-1 win, and they do not want to embroiled in a controversy right now.

Digne coming out to insist nothing has gone amiss makes sense, but whether that would do anything to the reported fractious relationship between him and Benitez remains to be seen.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
