Lucas Digne in danger of Everton freeze-out after breaking golden rule – Sky pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell suggests Everton star Lucas Digne could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines if he has rowed with Rafa Benitez.

Digne, 28, was left out of the Everton squad for their 2-1 win over Arsenal on Monday night (6 December), despite the Frenchman being fit.

Benitez was coy on the left-back’s absence during his media duties, but The Athletic claim a row in Spanish between the pair in the build-up to Monday was the catalyst for Digne’s demotion.

Former Everton centre-forward Campbell believes Digne needs to sort himself out.

“Nobody’s bigger than the club, nobody goes against the manager, that’s what that is,” Sky Sports pundit Campbell told Goodison News.

“I know there’s player power and all that but if you go against the manager you’ll find yourself getting splinters, not being involved.

“I’m sure there’s going to be some clear-the-air talks but players have to do the right thing and play, that’s the key.

“Whether you agree with the manager or not, get your head down and get grafting because they need him, he’s a top player.”

Rafa lays down the law

Digne has made over 100 appearances for the Blues since joining from Barcelona in 2018 and has been a pillar of consistency at full-back, contributing 18 assists across his first three Premier League seasons.

Before Monday, he had started all but one of their first 14 league games, but reputations mean little under Benitez, who has made a big statement with his handling of the situation.

In other Everton news, the Blues have green-lighted a stunning Blues star loan exit in January as this American-owned club plots a mid-season swoop.
