Marcel Brands set for new role after Everton departure

Marcel Brands could be in line to take on a new job within the Netherlands’ FA after his exit from Everton was confirmed earlier this week [6 December].

Voetbal International report that the Dutchman is high on the list of potential candidates to replace Nico-Jan Hoogma as their director of football.

They also have a few more details on his exit from Goodison Park and they claim that some of the players signed during Brands’ time there were not his ideas.

It seems as if Brands could be about to land on his feet despite his failure at Goodison Park.

Brands to walk into another job.

Before he arrived on Merseyside, the Dutchman had a big reputation within the game, but he failed to deliver much success for whatever reason.

Now, what probably didn’t help was that he had to scout and buy players for three very different managers.

Marco Silva was relatively inexperienced, while Carlo Ancelotti wanted to sign established stars, and Rafael Benitez was limited by FFP, so he had to try and pick up bargains.

Therefore, you do have to question just how much control, and power Brands actually had.

Perhaps, if he had been given more influence, he might have been able to deliver better players, but the lack of a clear plan clearly hindered him and impacted his work.

Of course, he should have done better, but he wasn’t helped, and hopefully, the club deal with the new director of football much better, and they learn their lessons from Brands’ time at Goodison.
