Kevin Campbell reacts to Everton departure of Marcel Brands this week
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that the axe was always going to fall on Marcel Brands after his failings at Everton in recent years.
The former Toffees forward speaking to Goodison News, insisted that everything has become a “mess” in Merseyside.
Brands left the club this week, with further news following that Gretar Steinsson and Dan Purdy have also decided to leave.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell was clear that it all comes down to the lack of forward planning at the club.
“My thoughts were that we could see it coming, definitely seen it coming.
“The remit that the football club had, I mentioned about a plan, there was no plan. The director of football really is the one who has to implement a plan.
“Now, of all the money that has been spent, Everton do not have a quality squad and they’re in the top five of Europe in spenders.
“The axe is going to fall on you if you’re the director of football, the remit, the plan, it’s all been a mess.
“It needs restructuring and modelling.”

Always going to happen.
It will be hard to find one Evertonian who is downhearted with this development over the past week.
Brands’ time at the club can only be described as a disaster, and a new route is certainly needed to transform the fortunes at the club.
This now gives Rafa Benitez free rein to make his own decisions on all fronts, with more pressure now on his head.
Time will tell if this was the right decision.
In other Everton news, an ex-Premier League referee was horrified by this controversial moment in the win over Arsenal.
