Cenk Tosun’s agent: Everton striker will reject offers to leave in January

Cenk Tosun’s agent claims his client does not want to leave Everton during the January transfer window.

As reported by The Athletic, the 30-year-old is ready to reject any offers to leave Goodison Park next month, despite a number of clubs showing an interest in his services.

Dr Erkut Sogut, Tosun’s agent, said: “Cenk does not want to leave in January. He has a contract until the end of the season and he wants to give something back. He feels like he can contribute and is not the type to just sit on the bench and be happy.“

Lucrative summer deal

The £27million signing from Besiktas sees his Everton deal expire in June 2022.

From January, the Turkey international can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs to join as a free agent.

That means Tosun can net a lucrative contract with his next club who will not have to pay a transfer fee for him.

Could that be the real reason behind his reluctance to leave Everton in January? If a team signs him next month, they’re likely to offer less in wages.

Everton

It’s hard to come to a conclusion isn’t Tosun is eyeing the money.

He’s currently earning a big wage at Everton but Rafa Benitez has shown a clear unwillingness to play Tosun, with his only appearance this season a brief cameo in the 4-1 thrashing to Liverpool earlier this month (1 December).

Richarlison and Salomon Rondon are both ahead of him in the striker pecking order with star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to return from a lengthy injury lay-off this month, further decimating opportunities for Tosun.

In other Everton news, the Blues are set to launch an ‘Explosive’ bid to sign this somersaulting international ace ahead of their Premier League rivals.
