Everton want Brentford centre-back Pontus Jansson in January
Everton want Brentford centre-back Pontus Jansson in January after they were alerted to his contract situation, according to The Guardian.
The Bees skipper, 30, is also wanted by Newcastle United and Leicester City, but they are likely to demand a large fee for the Swede despite being in the final six months of his deal.
Thomas Frank’s side have an option to extend Jansson’s contract by a year, and they are likely to do so given how influential he has been to their campaign since they gained Premier League promotion for the first-time ever in the summer.

Much-needed addition
Everton have leaked 28 goals in 16 league appearances so far in 2021-22, and with Yerry Mina struggling with injuries all season, Rafa Benitez would most likely be keen on making a quality addition to his backline next month.
Brentford have conceded 22 goals, but they are in the top half of the table due to the defensive input of their skipper.
Manager Thomas Frank dubbed Jansson a ‘fantastic’ defender in July 2020 ahead of their promotion play-offs, and he has not been short of that since their top-flight journey started.
The Toffees want to improve at the back, and they could do with such a quality defender.
The ex-Leeds star is not short of suitors, and whether Everton have a chance of tempting him to Goodison Park remains to be seen.

It does not appear that they would be able to get him on a cheap, as they would have reckoned the Bees would be keen on cashing in on him in January in order not to lose him for nothing in the summer.
The option to extend Jansson’s deal means Brentford are able to protect their asset right now, and the Toffees may have to look elsewhere for that bargain deal Financial Fair Play has forced them to look for.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
