Everton face Andros Townsend injury blow ahead of Chelsea clash

Everton may have suffered a big blow ahead of their clash against Chelsea with Andros Townsend now picking up an injury.

The 30-year-old is suspected to have broken a bone in his foot, and he has undergone a scan today.

He picked up the injury during Everton’s 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Brazilian winger Richarlison was also taken off during the game due to an injury scare. He has also undergone a scan on his calf injury.

Reliable Everton insider El Bobble shared the information on Tuesday afternoon (14 December). They wrote: “Everton winger Andros Townsend has also undergone a scan on a suspected broken bone in his foot, which was also sustained in the defeat at Crystal Palace.”

Huge blow

Everton are currently in a mess.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still not fully fit, and now the likes of Richarlison and Townsend could be absent against Chelsea as well.

The Toffees are heading into this match on the back of a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace, and another poor performance against the Blues will surely mark the end of Rafa Benitez’s short spell at the club.

So far, it’s been a disaster. While Benitez has faced trouble with injury problems at the club, the Spaniard still should have done a lot better with the squad he inherited.

He has frozen out Lucas Digne, arguably one of the most consistent players at the club, while the team continue to suffer on the pitch.

Townsend started the season brightly since joining in the summer on a free transfer, with BBC claiming his move to be “golden”, but it seems he has lost his spark a bit in recent months.

Nevertheless, his injury (hope it’s not serious) will come as a huge blow for the Toffees.

In other Everton news, the Blues have launched a bid to sign this Champions League left-back as Lucas Digne’s replacement.
