The Athletic journalist issues claim on Duncan Ferguson future at Everton after online exit speculation
Duncan Ferguson is not on the verge of leaving Everton despite speculation on Monday night (13 December), according to The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe.
Writing via his personal Twitter profile on Tuesday afternoon (14 December), the Everton correspondent clarified events surrounding the Goodison Park hero.
“From what I’m hearing Duncan Ferguson isn’t on the brink of leaving Everton despite the rumours on Twitter last night,” O’Keeffe said.
Rumours
Talk spread like wildfire on Monday evening that Ferguson was close to leaving his position as Everton assistant manager.
There was no substantiation to these claims with various accounts merely writing that he was ‘on the brink’ of a Goodison exit.
A few tweets were enough to spark a big debate on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter as Blues wondered whether another high-profile exit was on the cards after Marcel Brands recently left his role as director of football.
Most fans will have seen through the unsubstantiated claims but it did leave a seed of doubt in the mind.

However, that appears to have been put to bed for now as O’Keeffe rubbished the speculation.
It’s been a difficult period for Everton after just one win in their last 10 games but there’s been no shortage of commitment from Ferguson who has been seen liaising with Rafa Benitez in the dugout and barking orders at the players.
In other Everton news, Newcastle are plotting a January deal for this Blues star and £17.1million will seal the deal.
