Juventus showing interest in Everton defender Lucas Digne

Juventus are keeping tabs on Everton defender Lucas Digne, according to reports from Calciomercato.

The 28-year-old has apparently fallen out with Rafael Benitez, with the Spaniard not including him in recent matchday squads.

The report claims that the Old Lady are looking for a replacement for Alex Sandro, and they have earmarked Digne as an option for that role.

Interesting situation

The omission of Digne from the matchday squad, and using Ben Godfrey in his position was a clear indication that there was a rift between the pair.

Benitez has said today (15 December) that Digne is an “important” player for the club, but the Frenchman’s long-term future remains up in the air.

Digne has been brilliant for the Toffees since joining from Barcelona, with Jamie Redknapp previously describing him as “exceptional”.

At the same time, Benitez will be looking to sign new players in the January transfer window, as he feels the squad needs a massive redevelopment.

The problem is he won’t be provided with a huge transfer kitty. This could prompt him to sell one or two players and reinvest the money into the squad, and Digne could easily be one of them.

The left-back is one area where Everton could look to invest in January, and it will be interesting to see what they do with the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Digne won’t feature against Chelsea on Thursday in the Premier League due to illness.
