Everton travelled to Stamford Bridge to face the Euro champions on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

The Toffees were without a win away from home in their last six games in the Premier League, prior to this fixture.

On top of that, as many as 12 senior players were missing for this tie with injury and illness.

Benitez was forced to start with young talents and they didn’t disappoint.

The likes of Branthwaite, Gordon and Simms started the game, while Dobbin came off the bench in the 62nd minute.

Branthwaite will grab the headlines for the equalising goal, but he was also superb at the back, displaying excellent composure and maturity.

Gordon has been featuring regularly this season, and he was brilliant with his deliveries. He provided the assist for Branthwaite’s goal in the 74th minute.

Everton managed only 20% of possession during the game, but the Toffees fans will be delighted with the effort from the players.

The Toffees have managed just one win in their last 11 games in all competitions.
