Everton still in the hunt for Philippe Coutinho

Everton are still interested to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona are looking to ship out some of the high earners at the club, and Coutinho is one of them.

The report claims that Coutinho’s agent is handling interests from numerous clubs along with Everton at the moment, waiting for one to make a definitive move.

Gamble

Coutinho became one of the most expensive players in the history of football when he completed a move to Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018 for a fee of around £142million.

Big things were expected of him after his stellar performances for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp even hailed him as a “world class” player.

However, he has failed horribly to nail down a starting spot at Barcelona, with a series of managerial changes hampering his stability.

The Catalan giants are now looking to get him off their wage bill.

At 29, Coutinho still has got a lot to offer, but he would still be a gamble signing.

Everton do need to bolster their attacking ranks in January, and signing a quality attacking midfielder could be on their agenda.

The prospect of Richarlison and Coutinho forging a strong partnership is tempting. It remains to be seen whether the Toffees come up with a concrete offer for him next month.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
