Alan Myers shares latest Everton squad update after COVID postponement

Alan Myers has shared the latest Everton squad update following their Boxing Day (December 26) fixture postponement.

The Blues’ trip to Turf Moor has today (December 24) been cancelled due to a covid outbreak at the Merseyside club.

Everton had initially requested for the game to be cancelled but it was rejected by the Premier League.

Myers took to Twitter to express his thoughts: “Burnley versus Everton postponed on Boxing Day.

“Further players, originally on the ‘fit list’ were unable to train today, there remain five players and two staff members suffering from Covid-19 issues”

Unbelievable

The current state of affairs the Premier League currently find themselves in is ridiculous. Understandably they haven’t caused the pandemic but the way in which they operate is making proceedings painful for everybody involved in football.

This scenario could have been concluded much earlier if those in charge listened to Everton in their appeal to have the game postponed.

However, there is a little bit of in this area with some teams calling for their games to be postponed in completely unnecessary circumstances – like seen with Chelsea’s request against Wolves.

This is the third Boxing Day fixture to be postponed – so far – and the 17th in total. When these games can be played is unknown as the issue of the pandemic only looks to get worse.

On immediate thought it is a positive decision for Everton as they can now aid their much-depleted squad.

But this is a very difficult situation for football in general. The games can’t be caught up on like they were after last season’s pause in play due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

A solution must be found before the problem gets out of hand.
