Kevin Campbell predicts ‘culling’ of Everton squad desperately needed

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Rafa Benitez has to conduct a “culling” of the current Everton squad at Goodison Park.

The ex-Toffees talisman admitted that the Spaniard needs to be ruthless by showing the exit door to numerous players in the imminent future.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna has reported that Fabian Delph is one who could leave, with Campbell backing that to happen.

“Whether he [Delph] leaves before the end of the season or not, I’m not sure,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“I think there has to be a shifting of the squad, there has to be a culling and Rafa Benitez has to do it, he has to have that ruthless streak.

“He’s got to make the decisions for the bettering of Everton Football Club, and that’s one of the moves [Delph] I think he will make.”

Needed.

Delph has improved in recent weeks and months when called upon, but he isn’t one of those names that are going to take us forward.

The Englishman has featured six times in the Premier League this season, with only three of those starts in his 250 minutes of action.

Once everyone is fit, he stands no chance of featuring consistently, and that must be on the mind of Benitez and his transfer team moving into next month.

It would be no surprise to see him moved on.
