Anthony Gordon says Everton can still finish in European places
Everton can still finish in the European positions in the Premier League come the end of the season despite a poor start, according to Anthony Gordon.
The Toffees started the season well with three wins from the opening four games before a barren run saw them win just two of their next 13 in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez’s side currently sit in 15th place with just 19 points this season, but they’re only nine points behind Manchester United in seventh place which would see them qualify for Europe next season.

Gordon has been a regular in the team this season and while speaking to Everton’s official website, he told them he believes that that’s exactly what the team should be aiming for and he feels they can do it.
“I’m optimistic and I’m ambitious,” he said. “I think Everton should be competing in Europe and I don’t think that’s off the cards this season. We have the quality in the squad and the staff so it’s up to us as players to go out there and perform.
“The manager’s record speaks for itself and he’s come here to win more. I’d love to be part of a winning team here.
“It’s been too long since this club won silverware and it’d be incredible to be part of the next team to do that. That has to be the aim.”

Ambitious
You can’t say that Gordon isn’t ambitious when it comes to his hopes and aspirations for the season.
At the halfway point of the campaign they sit eight points above the relegation zone, but with the poor form and huge amount of injury problems that they’ve had this season an improvement is more than achievable.
Players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina have missed large chunks of the season and the likes of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have had a good debut season too.
With the January transfer window approaching too, they have a chance to further improve their squad and if they can string together a run of results there is no reason why they can’t find themselves up there.
It will be difficult undoubtedly, but if the squad all have the same belief as “star of the future” Gordon then there is no reason why they can’t succeed.
