Denis Zakaria to leave Borussia Monchengladbach amid Everton interest
Denis Zakaria has told Borussia Monchengladbach he wants to leave the club in the summer, and Everton are keen on signing him.
According to 90min, the Toffees have reached out to lodge their interest in the Switzerland international midfielder, 25, and he will be free to talk to his suitors in January.
Zakaria will be leaving the Bundesliga outfit as a free agent at the end of 2021-22, but he can negotiate with Everton and co next month when he enters the final six months of his deal.
Hope?
The Toffees are not the only ones keen on the midfield powerhouse, and he will now attract more suitors after making his intentions known.
Zakaria wants to play regular Champions League football, and with Monchengladbach just two points above the drop zone at the moment, their chances of convincing him to sign a new deal were dealt a massive blow.
Everton are currently pushing for Europe and will hope to get their campaign back on track in the second half of the campaign.
However, finishing in the top-four looks very much out of reach right now, and so do their chances of landing the Swiss ace.
Rafa Benitez would love to strengthen in the middle of the park this January, but he has to look elsewhere as Zakaria will not be moving.

Landing such a quality player for free in the summer would be massive, and Everton could do with such a deal given their Financial Fair Play shortcomings.
That will depend on if they finish in the top-four, though, and not even the most optimistic of Toffees fans see that happening.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
