Everton door not closed on Digne yet with no transfer request submitted

Lucas Digne’s time at Everton may not necessarily come to an end yet as the Frenchman has not yet handed in a transfer request, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 28-year-old has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks as the Toffees continue to struggle for form.

Rumours that manager Rafael Benitez is interested in signing Dynamo Kiev full-back Vitaliy Mykolenko though means the possibility is not out of the question entirely.

Glimmer of Hope

The fact that Digne is yet to confirm his intentions of leaving Goodison Park is reason enough for Toffees to feel confident.

If he really wanted to leave the club in January, there appears to be no reason for not submitting a transfer request.

Digne hasn’t featured in the Everton team since he played the full match during the Toffee’s 4-1 derby day defeat to Liverpool.

Everton went on to beat Arsenal in their next game and Digne hasn’t been seen in the matchday squad since.

Even if the former Barcelona player does hand his notice in to Benitez, there are examples of players who have done so in the past, only to remain an Everton player.

Kevin Sheedy. Neville Southall and Tony Cottee all wanted a move away from Merseyside during their careers but ultimately stayed at Everton for much longer and the same could happen again.

These examples were a long time ago though in football terms and there is interest in the left-back.

Chelsea are the club most interested with Ben Chilwell out injured for the season with an ACL tear.

This could see Digne leave temporarily on loan and he could return to Goodison next season a changed player who would be willing to stay.

In other Everton news, this Champions League midfielder could be making the move to Goodison.
