Paul Joyce: Everton closing in on Nathan Patterson

Everton are close to securing a deal for Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson, according to the Times journalist Paul Joyce.

The Toffees reportedly made attempts to sign Patterson during the summer, but those offers were rejected, with Steven Gerrard branding them as a joke.

However, it seems Rangers are willing to negotiate a deal for Patterson’s departure.

Joyce wrote on Twitter: “Everton closing in on a deal for Glasgow Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson.”

According to the Liverpool Echo, the deal will likely be worth £10million.

Brilliant addition

While Everton have been in shambles on the pitch, it seems they are working smoothly to secure their targets in January.

The club confirmed the signing of Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dinamo Kiev on Saturday, and it looks like the Rangers defender could be their second major signing of January.

According to reports from The Daily Record, Rangers will receive a club-record fee for Patterson that will be in excess of £10million.

Patterson has only started six times for the Gers this season, but the 20-year-old is a fabulous talent, who has always impressed whenever he took the pitch.

He is already a regular for the Scottish national team. Rangers wanted to keep hold of him, but his situation is really an unfortunate one.

With club skipper James Tavernier occupying the same position, it is really difficult for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to give him regular starts.

Primarily a right-back, Patterson can also play on the left-hand side. His potential arrival could pave the way for Jonjoe Kenny’s departure.
