Kevin Sheedy blown away by Everton young talent Anthony Gordon

The New Year didn’t bring good fortune for Everton as they lost 3-2 against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday at Goodison Park.

Rafa Benitez’s side were poor in defence and countless individual errors allowed the visitors to punish them.

Everton legend, Kevin Sheedy, has showered heaps of praise on Anthony Gordon, who scored a brace for the Toffees.

Sheedy, who made over 275 appearances for the Toffees, has suggested that the 20-year-old has all the potential to be a “top player”.

He tweeted: “Great performance by Anthony Gordon today. Breath of fresh air for the Blues. A top player in the making.”

Tremendous progress

Gordon is making tremendous progress under Benitez this season.

His emergence as a regular first-team player has been one of the big positives for the Toffees, in an otherwise bleak season thus far.

He has made eight starts in the Premier League and has made a further seven appearances from the bench.

Gordon was superb against Brighton. He attempted five shots during the game and brought a different level of energy upfront along with Demarai Gray.

For the first goal, it took a big deflection but the drive and determination he showed was really pleasing.

The goal brought the Toffees back into the game, but the Toffees couldn’t capitalise on it. The second goal was an instinctive finish after he was found in the box by Jonjoe Kenny.

Gordon was outstanding against Chelsea last month, while he was equally brilliant in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur back in November.

Meanwhile, Everton have now picked up just one win from their last 12 league games, and Rafa Benitez is under tremendous pressure.

In other Everton news, this Toffees defender has spoken out about vaccinations at the club.
