talkSPORT reporter slams Everton defence in defeat to Brighton
talkSPORT reporter Matt Jones has slammed the Everton defence that shipped three goals in the defeat to Brighton on Sunday.
Rafa Benitez named a starting lineup with five defenders, but the Toffees were outclassed throughout the game and extended their poor form to just one win in the last 12 Premier League games.
Despite being fit and available, Lucas Digne was left on the bench with Seamus Coleman used as a left-wing-back and the team were poor defensively and couldn’t recover.

Speaking on talkSPORT, reporter Matt Jones was furious with the performance and claimed they looked as though they’d never played together before.
“You talk about the defending,” he said. “Let’s not forget Everton have got five defenders and two defensive midfielders on the pitch here today.
“They just look all over the place, they look like they haven’t played together before.”

Shocking
Considering Benitez’s career is based on how well he can set up a team defensively, the way Everton have performed this season has been appalling.
The Toffees have conceded 32 goals in 18 games this season and sit in 15th place, eight points above the relegation zone and with just one win in 12 games they’re in big danger.
It’s clear that Digne is on his way out of the club considering he hasn’t played since the falling out between him and the manager, but Benitez is seemingly putting the club’s best interests second by not using him when he’s available.
The team that played on Sunday was a shadow of what fans and neutrals expect from an Everton team and that simply isn’t good enough for a club of their size.
Something big needs to change in the second half of the season at Goodison Park, and don’t be surprised if it’s the manager.
