View: Everton should look into Alfredo Morelos transfer from Rangers after links

Everton are interested in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in January, but face competition from Newcastle and Leicester according to CBS Sports.

Morelos has been in fine form for the Glasgow side this season, scoring 11 goals so far this season including eight in the Scottish Premiership.

After joining the club in 2017, the Colombian has scored 107 goals in 211 games and has constantly been linked with a move away from the Scots to a bigger side.

It now seems as though the change in manager at the club in mid-season hasn’t stopped the potential of a transfer happening, with three Premier League sides including Everton linked with a January transfer for him.

While Newcastle are likely to be the most aggressive in their pursuit due to their position in the league and new-found financial position, but it’s arguably the Toffees who need him most.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems this season, Rafa Benitez’s side have managed to score just 23 goals so far this season.

With the England striker only just fit again, Everton can’t afford for him to get injured again and then be without him for another prolonged period of time.

The signing of Morelos would be great for Everton as it guarantees goals once more and the signing wouldn’t be nearly as expensive as some expect.

The 25-year-old’s current contract is due to expire in 18 months and the two clubs have a good relationship from previous deals, including the one that has taken Nathan Patterson to Goodison Park this month too.

He has shown an ability to lead the line on his own, is a great age, has shown brilliant physical capabilities and is a lethal goalscorer.

Once described as ‘unplayable‘ by Steven Gerrard, the Toffees can go some way to turning their season around by signing Morelos and keeping some competition around for when Calvert-Lewin is fit.

Benitez is being backed by the club in this window despite their poor start to the season under him, so Everton should go all the way and get this done to bring him some much-needed firepower.
