Everton left-back Digne will not join Newcastle United – Fabrizio Romano

Lucas Digne will leave Everton this month but he will not sign for Newcastle United, according to Fabrizio Romano

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, the Sky Sports Italy journalist reported that it’s “likely” that Digne, 28, will move to another Premier League club in January but Newcastle are not an option.

Chelsea, however, are reportedly interested in the France international but no talks have been held as of yet.

We’d rather he joined Chelsea

As Digne’s future seems destined to be away from Goodison Park, we have to start thinking about where we’d rather he went.

And as Newcastle are down in the Premier League relegation battle, we’d rather he didn’t go to St James’ Park so we welcome Romano’s update today.

Chelsea would be a good move for all parties but Everton really need the money after spending around £30million on Vitaly Mykolenko, who’ll replace Digne at left-back, and right-back Nathan Patterson.

However, we’d prefer it if he didn’t join a Premier League club at all so he doesn’t end up coming back and biting us.

Rafa Benitez’s fallout with Digne sounds like something that could have totally been avoided and has done nothing but strengthen the negative feeling towards the manager at Goodison.

Digne is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and we’re having to let him go because we have a manager with a history of falling out with players and are replacing him with someone who’s a bit of a risk.

In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri is at odds with Benitez over the potential third January addition at Goodison.
