Newcastle United table £22.5m bid for Everton left-back Lucas Digne – Sky Sports journalist

Newcastle United have made a £22.5million bid to sign Everton left-back Lucas Digne, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night, Downie reported that the Magpies have also offered midfielder Sean Longstaff in the deal for Digne.

Chelsea and West Ham are also reported to be keen on the French left-back, who has indicated he’d rather join a different club to Newcastle.

Not enough

After signing Vitaly Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson, Everton are bound to be in the red when it comes to their finances.

It’s no secret that the Blues have struggled with Financial Fair Play since the summer and that has restricted Rafa Benitez’s ability to strengthen the squad in the transfer market.

He managed to pull off a couple of decent cheap deals in the summer for Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend but the start to this January window has been nothing but scaled back.

Everton

Around £30million has been spent on the two new full-backs and Everton will no doubt want to make that money back.

Digne is someone who could be worth around £30million due to him being one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and a France international who’s previously been at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Roma and Lille.

We should be able to recoup our spendings just by selling Digne so the club might rather get a whole £30million for the left-back rather than getting Longstaff in the deal too.

We’ll have to wait and see whether or not this bid is accepted but Digne does not sound too keen on going to Newcastle.

In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri and Rafa Benitez are at odds over signing this player.
