Sean Longstaff wants to quit Newcastle United to sign for Everton
Sean Longstaff wants to leave Newcastle United this month and reunite with Rafa Benitez at Everton, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce.
The reporter says that Longstaff, 24, has “resisted attempts to extend his deal” at St James’ Park with his current terms due to expire at the end of the season.
Everton reportedly hoped that a player-plus-cash deal for Newcastle to sign Lucas Digne would help them sign Longstaff but Digne’s refusal to join the Magpies has made things tougher.

Still, Joyce reports that “Everton will look to try to make progress with a deal in the belief that Longstaff is prepared to make the move to Goodison Park”.
Committed
Rafa Benitez only wants players to join Everton if they are committed to the club and committed to playing for him.
And while that’s completely fair, you can end up signing players like Salomon Rondon, who has a great attitude but really lacks in a technical sense.
Longstaff is someone who has impressed in spells at Newcastle over the years.
On February 23, 2019, Alan Shearer hailed the midfielder’s “faultless” performance in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield in the Premier League.

In the last couple of seasons, we have to admit that it’s difficult to find too much praise for the Newcastle academy product.
While we’ve had a moan about Rondon in this story, it would be unfair to ignore the fact that Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have done quite well since signing for Benitez.
January signings Nathan Patterson and Vitaly Mykolenko also seem promising with both players in their early 20s, already full internationals and already have experience of playing in European club competitions.
It’s been an interesting month so far and it’ll also be interesting if we do manage to sign Longstaff.
In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri and Rafa Benitez are at odds over signing this player.
