Trevor Sinclair slams wantaway Everton defender Lucas Digne

Interest in Everton defender Lucas Digne has been high this January with the Frenchman reportedly wanting out of Goodison Park after a fallout with Rafael Benitez.

The 28-year-old has not featured for the Toffees since their heavy 4-1 Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool and may have played his last game in the Everton Blue.

TalkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair hasn’t been impressed with the former Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain player since he joined the club, particularly in defence.

“He can’t defend,” Sinclair said on TalkSPORT, “if you want to play him as a full-back it’s a no-no for me.

“I’ve seen players in cup competitions from lower divisions absolutely give him a horrendous time.”

Bad eggs need throwing out

Digne’s situation is causing further unrest at Goodison Park at a time when it is least needed.

The club are, to some degree, in a relegation battle with the Frenchman’s performances at left-back a small part of the wider problem at the club.

Benitez has already made his move to replace Digne before he has even left by signing Ukrainian left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv which has surely spelt the end for Digne at Everton.

This kind of thing has happened at every cub in the country at some stage and the best course of action is to always get rid of the trouble-making player.

Arsenal, for example, are in a similar predicament with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang causing problems at the Emirates.

Benitez won’t be afraid to be strong in his decisions and the expectation is leaning more and more towards Digne exiting Merseyside this window.

In other Everton news, the club have made an official approach for one of their January hopefuls.
