Everton left-back Lucas Digne to earn around £8.5million at Villa ahead of £25million move

Everton left-back Lucas Digne will earn around £8.5million at Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The France international, 28, will fetch the Goodison Park outfit around £25million, but his medical is not taking place anytime soon.

Chelsea decided to look elsewhere, while Newcastle had no chance of landing him, and Napoli were not able to meet his personal demands.

Plettenberg said: “He will probably move to Aston Villa, but medical is not yet in sight.

“Salary around £8.5m. Price tag around £25m. Chelsea were interested but they prefer another option. Newcastle had no real chance. Napoli couldn’t pay his demands.”

Great deal

Digne will be earning over £150,000 at Villa Park should the move go through, and that is comfortably more than what he currently pockets at Everton.

The Toffees will also be smiling to the bank as they could do with £25million right now given their current Financial Fair Play shortcomings.

The deal benefits everyone involved, and having already told Rafa Benitez he no longer wants to play for the club, an exit before the January transfer window shuts is best for both parties.

Everton have already brought in a replacement in Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev, and the 22-year-old Ukrainian will be hoping to hit the ground running on Merseyside.

Digne is not a fan of Benitez’s pragmatic style of play as it is limiting his attacking talents, but that is set to change under Steven Gerrard at Villa.

The Midlands outfit have also landed Philippe Countino on loan from Barcelona, and it appears the Frenchman believes in their project and European ambition.

The Toffees have clearly failed to match his ambitions, and the former Barca man will be looking forward to helping the Villans clinch a continental berth.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
