Newcastle no longer interested in Everton defender Lucas Digne

Newcastle United are no longer interested in signing Everton left-back Lucas Digne in the January transfer window, according to reports from The Daily Mail.

The Magpies are one of the clubs that showed keen interest in signing Lucas Digne who is almost certain to leave Everton this month.

However, the player’s wage demands are so high that even a mega-rich club like Newcastle have backed away.

The printed edition of The Daily Mail (8 January, page 123) states that “Everton’s Lucas Digne is said to be asking for £200,000 a week and is no longer thought to be a target.”

No future

Rafa Benitez made it absolutely clear that Digne is not in his plans for the future. The Spaniard confirmed yesterday (7 January) that full-back doesn’t want to stay at the club.

He has refused to comment whether any club is negotiating a deal for Digne, but has suggested that any potential suitors must come with a concrete offer.

Everton are reportedly demanding a fee of around £30million for the Frenchman [Sky Sports].

The Toffees are not looking to let him leave on loan, and are also not keen on part-exchange deals either.

However, Digne’s wage demands are exorbitantly high, and not many clubs can afford to pay that amount.

Newcastle are one of the richest clubs in the Premier League, thanks to the Saudi money, and even they are forced to cool their interest after learning his wage demands.

The Magpies have signed Kieran Tripper from Atletico Madrid this week, but they are looking to sign a host of players in the January window.
