Peter Reid: Won’t forgive Rafa Benitez for calling Everton small club
Peter Reid admits that he will not forgive Rafa Benitez for calling Everton a small club in the past.
The Spaniard’s comments were brought up when he was linked with the Goodison Park hot seat and the club legend still remembers them.
However, despite that and the recent results, he wants the fans to back him and give him some more time.

The Sunday Mirror (09/01/2022) quoted him as saying, “I won’t forgive Rafa for calling Everton a small club, but now we have to back him.
“If he is given time and it still doesn’t work out, then I will hold my hands up – I got it wrong.
“In any case, if Rafa was to go now, who would you get in? I don’t think there are many obvious candidates.
“The owner has made his choice and now we have to back him.”
Fair point
There aren’t many managers who will come in and wave a magic wand that will make Everton’s problems go away.
Benitez was not backed in the summer and this is the first window where he’s been allowed to spend a significant amount of money.
The time to actually judge him must start now and it remains to be seen how he does from here on in.

Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko have been signed for relatively big-ish money and it’s on the Spaniard to get the best out of them.
The latter started in the FA Cup tie and while he seemed a tad off the pace, these are still early days in his career.
Hopefully, the results improve now that Benitez has the squad that he wants which can see him finish in the top half.
In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
