‘We’re told’ – Sky Sports make new claim on Lucas Digne Everton future

Everton defender Lucas Digne ‘prefers a move to the Midlands’ as he nears a transfer to Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

The French left-back is on the verge of an exit from Goodison Park after Villa entered ‘advanced negotiations’ with Everton on Sunday [Jan 9, Sky Sports] to complete the signing.

Digne has been linked with Newcastle, Chelsea, West Ham and Villa [talkSPORT] but with Everton demanding a permanent transfer, it meant Steven Gerrard’s side could move into pole position for a deal.

Now according to Sky Sports presenter Emma Paton, Digne’s preference is a move to the Midlands as a deal edges closer.

“We know that Chelsea were interested, but it looks like they’re not pursuing their initial interest. Of course, Ben Chilwell is out injured at the moment.

“And we’re told that Digne prefers a move to the Midlands. The price likely to be between £20-25m, the two clubs not yet agreed a fee at the moment.”

Change

It seems as though Digne has had a change of heart when it comes to his preferences, with the Midlands now his preferred destination.

It had been reported previously that Chelsea were his priority destination [90min] but since a move hasn’t materialised for London he is clearly no longer interested.

The most important thing here for all parties is that a deal is getting done quickly, to stop the whole situation from dragging on and keeping an unhappy player at the club.

Everton will get a good sum of money for an unhappy star they have already replaced, Villa get a good deal for a ‘sensational‘ [May 19] full-back and Digne gets out of a club he doesn’t want to be at.

Everton can put that cash towards strengthening other areas of the squad hopefully and look to turn their season around after one win in 12 Premier League games.
